One way is to ensure you know the answer to the following:
- Who are the stakeholders in the project?
- What are their interests?
- What is the purpose of the project?
- How much is the budget for this project?
- How much is this project going to take?
- How long will the project take?
- What is the project schedule?
- When is it to be completed?
- What is the project plan?
